At the beginning of the 20th century a plague was devastating the grape vines in Alicante. Then a native of the Valley of Vinalopó found the solution: protecting every single grape bunch with a virgin cellulose paper bag gloss-finished on the exterior face. Chance showed that this protection was not only efficient against the insect invasion and the effects of the direct fumigation with insecticide, but also it kept the grape bunches protected from harsh climate allowing the grape seed to grow an uniform colour, shine and texture.
Thanks to this unique system of cultivation, table grapes of Vinalopó has exceptional physical and gastronomic characteristics that have allowed her to be the only grape bagged with Designation of Origin.
The perfection of the grain and a thorough control of quality are essential conditions required to grant the DO Vinalopó labeling that guarantees its origin.
